3M adds miniSAS cable assemblies to twin axial ribbon cable platform

Nov. 9, 2010
The new assembly is less than half the thickness of conventional miniSAS products, claims 3M.

AUSTIN, Texas -- 3M announced the availability of its High Routability Internal miniSAS Cable Assemblies 8F36 Series, which utilize the company's recently introduced flat, foldable and longitudinally-shielded high performance twin axial ribbon cable products.

RELATED STORY: 3M unveils highly routable, high-speed twin axial ribbon cable

The flat, foldable and pliable design of the 8F36 Series assemblies utilizes 3M's ultra-low-profile, high speed, high signal density Twin Axial Ribbon Cable SL8800 Series, making the new assembly less than half the thickness of conventional miniSAS, claims the company. Due to the attributes of the SL8800 Series cable, the 8F36 Series is ideal for space-constrained electronic systems and can easily route along the sides of cabinets and through narrow openings between fans or heat sinks.

Additionally, the 8F36 Series cable assembly:

-- Exceeds the 6 Gbps performance standard designated by SAS 2.0 requirements.
-- Can be folded and bent in multiple locations with a bend radius as low as 1 mm and still meet SAS 2.0 performance criteria.
-- Is available with or without sidebands.
-- Is available with silver or tin plated signal conductors and solid polyolefin dielectric Is RoHS compliant and halogen-free.

The miniSAS cable assemblies will be available through 3M Interconnect Solutions franchised distributors. For more information on 3M Twin Axial Cable Solutions, visit www.3Mtwinax.com. The 3M High Performance Twin Axial Ribbon Cable and Assemblies platform will also be on display this week at Electronica 2010 in Munich, Germany, November 9-12, 2010, in Hall B3, Booth 314.
