March 13, 2007 -- FCI has introduced its Burndy Patriot PAT644XT-18V, a battery-actuated hydraulic crimping tool aimed at the contractor, utility and telecommunications markets. The company says the re-designed tool offers more crimps per charge, improved ergonomic design, and an 18V Nickel Metal-Hydride (Ni-MH) battery.

According to the company, the PAT644XT-18V incorporates a "patented, high-speed hydraulic pump, transmission and piston design." The company says the battery-actuated hydraulic tool is designed to provide a consistent, reliable connection with copper or aluminum terminals and splices.

The tool's 2.6 AH high-capacity 18V Ni-MH battery eliminates voltage depression, maximizing the number of crimps per charge. With a crimping head design designed for 360° head rotation, the tool head can operate in virtually any position.

The PAT644XT-18V provides 11 tons of output force, includes an audible "pop-off" crimp indicator, and features an ergonomically balanced design to lessen fatigue. The die-less crimper also incorporates a fixed nest and indentor, designed to allevieate lost dies.

The tool comes with a durable, high-impact, formed carrying case, a battery charger, two batteries and tool retention lanyard. Each crimping tool in the Patriot line uses off-the-shelf Burndy brand connectors and includes a five year limited warranty.
