September 4, 2007 -- CommScope, Inc. has introduced a quieter design for its 52 Universal Series of outdoor enclosures, aimed at residential applications. According to the company, the cabinets' new engineering design focuses on vital areas of acoustic and thermal performance.
The company says the re-tooled 52 Universal series accommodates the need for outdoor enclosure deployments requiring quieter cabinets by using variable speed fan technology with creative airflow path management. In concert with acoustic dampening packages, the company says the technology results in acoustic performance levels below 50 decibels.
At the same time, the company notes that the re-designed enclosures provide efficient enclosure thermal management that high bandwidth services and their associated thermal loads require. The unit's patented heat exchanger technology is said to significantly increase thermal management capability over the legacy CommScope 52 Series.
The 52 Universal series is offered in two different sizes. The 52BU Universal enclosure measures 46" wide x 63" tall x 26" deep with a single bay of 44" for 23-inch equipment rack space. For larger service needs, the 52EU Universal enclosure measures 46" wide x 63" tall x 53" deep with dual back-to-back bays of 44" for 23-inch equipment rack space. Both cabinets feature enhanced protection and splice storage capacities, and employ fully sealed, modular designs that are easily padded and designed to accommodate growth. The 52BU Universal can also be pole or wall mounted.
Both enclosures also feature a durable, graffiti-resistant beige powder coat paint finish and an integrated backup battery chamber with optional battery bases to augment reserve needs. Various alarms to detect such conditions as high temperature and intrusion can be factory wired. Fully sealed for maximum electronics protection, the enclosures are designed, tested and certified for GR-487 issue 2 and Zone 4 compliance.
"We believe the CommScope 52 Universal cabinets are the next phase in outdoor enclosure technology and are a wise choice in long term outside plant investment desired by service providers," comments Ted Hally, executive vice president and general manager, enterprise, at CommScope. "Through our carrier group, [we have] manufactured over 350,000 enclosures that have been installed worldwide."
