September 26, 2007 -- Axis Communications has released its 209FD and 209MFD network cameras, featuring ultra-compact designs created specifically for indoor locations that require smart, non-invasive cameras. The cameras are suitable for areas such as retail stores, reception areas, offices and hallways.

According to the company, the fixed dome surveillance cameras use progressive scan technology to provide sharp images of moving objects, and deliver simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams that allow optimization of image quality and bandwidth efficiency.

Both network cameras are four centimeters high (1.54 inches) and are to be installed on ceilings and in walls. Equipped with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, each camera uses one Ethernet cable for both power and video. The cameras are supported by a range of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner (ADP) program and the AXIS Camera Station video management software.

"These new cameras address the increasing market demand for network cameras that provide high resolution but are not seen as invasive," comments Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. "The added megapixel technology in the AXIS 209MFD makes it possible to view image details needed for identifying individuals, objects, and environments -- even from far distances."

The AXIS 209FD and AXIS 209MFD will be available through Axis' distribution channels in Q4 of this year. Suggested retail pricing is $549 for the AXIS 209FD and $649 for the AXIS 209MFD.
