Avaya acquires RouteScience Technologies

Avaya Inc. has acquired substantially all of the assets of RouteScience Technologies, Inc., a maker of adaptive networking software for enterprises and service providers.

ANS monitors, assesses and automatically adjusts the network environment to optimize data traffic flow and enhance the performance of advanced applications, such as Internet Protocol (IP) telephony.

Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Based in California, most of RouteScience's employees have now joined Avaya.

"RouteScience adaptive networking software helps companies monitor and manage voice over IP (VoIP) and other latency-sensitive traffic over wide area networks," says Micky Tsui, vice president and general manager, Avaya Communications Systems Division. "RouteScience expands Avaya's network management offers and enhances our software development team in the critical areas of application-based network assessment, monitoring and intelligent route adjustment. We look forward to working together to help companies design and deploy networks that are self-healing and self-optimizing."

Based on open industry standards, RouteScience solutions can operate with technology from a wide variety of vendors. ANS is a field-proven offering available since 2001 that works with data routers from multiple industry leaders. Avaya will continue to support RouteScience customers and offer ANS while developing expanded offerings that continue to advance Avaya's strategy to provide solutions and services that deliver reliability and performance in converged voice and data networks.
