TIA to hold recovery program

May 24, 2004
May 24, 2004 - Slated for SUPERCOMM, it will focus on telecom research, Internet protocol services and wireless broadband.

The Telecommunications Industry Association is organizing a policy-oriented program June 21-22, at SUPERCOMM 2004 in Chicago. The program will focus on three growth areas of the telecommunications market: telecom research, Internet protocol (IP) services and wireless broadband.

The TIA's "Roadmap to Recovery" program will address business development, regulatory policy and technical innovation in each of these three areas with panels of service providers, vendors, research community specialists and government representatives.

FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin will provide the luncheon keynote on June 22. Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy also will participate, kicking off the Tuesday morning IP services panel. Other senior government speakers will include: John Muleta, wireless bureau chief of the FCC; Michael Gallagher, acting assistant secretary of commerce and acting administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA); David Gross, United States coordinator of international communications and information policy of the U.S. State Department; David Goldston, chief of staff of the House of Representatives' Science Committee; David Nelson, director of the National Coordination Office for Information Technology Research and Development; and Al Vincent, associate administrator for telecommunication sciences and director of NTIA's Institute for Telecommunication Sciences, among others.

"This program is loaded with powerful, high-level speakers who will appeal to all SUPERCOMM attendees. We're pleased to have two FCC commissioners participate, and we look forward to fostering a lively dialogue amongst our government and industry speakers on each of the panel topics," says TIA President Matthew Flanigan.

"As the industry looks toward next-generation networks and the convergence of voice, video and data services, it is critical that the regulatory policy surrounding IP services and wireless broadband does not slow the growth of these powerful technologies," Flanigan continues. "Just as important to NGN and beyond is an environment that fosters innovation. Federal telecom research funding is woefully lacking in providing for the long-term growth of the industry. Our panelists are the leaders that are working to get the policy right in these key areas."

"Roadmap to Recovery" is free to attend, but paid tickets are required to attend the keynote luncheon with Martin.

The TIA is based in Arlington, VA. To sign up in advance visit www.supercomm2004.com.
