Changing Environmental Conditions Can Impact Sensitive Equipment. Early Detection is Key.

June 12, 2018

If your business is involved in discrete manufacturing, process industry, transportation and logistics, retail, health care, utilities or energy and natural resources, then you likely are—or will be—adopting IoT. As a result, you also may be responsible for extending the network into nontraditional indoor and outdoor spaces.

Chatsworth Products (CPI) RMR® industrial enclosures are NEMA-rated for use in harsh indoor and outdoor environments and provide the primary protection for equipment, as they are completely sealed when closed. To ensure environmental conditions remain optimal for equipment inside the enclosure, and to detect changes in the environment or signs of tampering, consider adding remote monitoring and control.

Environmental monitoring appliances, like CPI's Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM-750) System, can detect the entry of water and measure:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Airflow
  • Power

Rack-mount power distribution units (PDUs), distribute power to switches, provide remote outlet control so you can remotely cycle power to equipment, and monitor power use by equipment. Some PDUs, like CPI's eConnect® PDU, also monitor environmental conditions. Both devices automate monitoring, keep logs of measured data and let you set thresholds and receive alarm notifications when conditions approach limits, so you can prevent network outages.
