Codisa’s NAP data center

Since its founding in 1991, Codisa has been a highly regarded technology partner in Costa Rica and throughout Latin America. Codisa offers cloud, data center management, and data center hosting services. The company’s noteworthy accomplishments include being the first Latin American company to adopt Oracle’s enterprise resource planning capabilities, in 1993, and launching Costa Rica’s first private cloud service in 2011.

In 2018, Codisa began developing their latest data center facility—Codisa NAP in Tibas, which is just outside of San Jose, Costa Rica. It is Codisa’s third colocation data center to be built in the past decade; from this facility the provider offers both colocation and cloud services.

The Codisa NAP facility in Tibas includes a nearly 6,000-square-foot data center and 13,000 square feet of space that houses the network operations center (NOC) and office space. The space was previously a call center and sat vacant for two years before Codisa renovated the building.

The facility’s lighting, control and building-automation platform, from Igor, helps Codisa reach its objective of maintaining an environmentally friendly and sustainable facility. The intelligent lighting solution was installed throughout the NOC and office space. The Igor solution delivers lighting, control, and automation, all powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE). Nodes that control the luminaires connect to PoE switches. Motion sensors in the spaces turn lighting on and off, and users have the ability to set illumination levels as well as lighting color within each office. A web interface serves as the access point for the management portal, making it easy to set up and control the lighting.

Igor’s flagship product, Nexos, is a PoE Internet of Things (IoT) smart building platform that incorporates the hardware, software, and cloud-analytics components to form the digital building backbone. Combined with an open application programming interface (API) and real-time platform data engine, Nexos seamlessly integrates full lighting controls with virtually any IoT device or smart building application. Employing Nexos allows Codisa to connect multiple protocols within the building, and control them through a single platform.

Panduit Category 6A structured cabling serves as the infrastructure for the Igor solution. End devices, including lights and security cameras, are direct-connected to the cabling using Panduit’s field-terminated plugs with a 45-degree-angled wire cap. These plugs enable installers to connect devices in the ceiling by snapping two pieces together. The angled wire cap eased termination in tight areas, where bend radius was a concern. Panduit’s MaTriX copper cable provides the 10GBase-T and PoE delivery.

“In the analysis of risk management, we concluded that the solution offered by Panduit minimized the risk in the area of supplies, because it has a large stock and an agile production system that offers availability of high-quality products at the right time at competitive prices, in addition to having a large number of certified integrators across the country, which was very important for this project,” commented Diego Cardoza Vallejo, Codisa’s data center manager.

Panduit provided on-site engineering assistance to support the project’s customization.
