Omnitron’s PoE OmniConverter products are designed and field-tested to be interoperable with Axis IP network cameras.

Omnitron Systems recently announced it entered into a technology partnership with Axis Communications. The Omnitron Systems’ OmniConverter Power over Ethernet (PoE) injector media converters are designed and field-tested to be interoperable with Axis IP network cameras. “Using fiber cabling for distance extension and providing PoE power to the camera over copper UTP cabling, OmniConverter fiber-to-copper media converters extend the deployable reach of cameras beyond the 100-meter distance limitation of copper cabling,” Omnitron said when announcing the partnership. “Classified as power sourcing equipment (PSE), OmniConverter media converters are capable of providing PoE (15 watts), PoE+ (30 watts), or HPoE (60 watts) to multiple Axis cameras using standard UTP cabling.”

Omnitron said it is “the first company to provide high-power 60W PoE Gigabit media converters in a compact form factor, meeting the challenging power requirements of PTZ cameras. OmniConverter GHPoE/S models have been deployed worldwide with 60W Axis IP network cameras.”

Greg Poggi, Omnitron’s vice president of global business development, commented, “The partnership between Omnitron Systems and Axis Communications provides surveillance network integrators and operators with the confidence of using Omnitron’s reliable equipment that has been verified to interoperate with the Axis cameras. Using the integrated fiber-to-copper conversion and PoE, OmniConverters make it easy to extend the reach and provide power to the camera in one device, which simplifies installation and increases reliability.”

OmniConverter media converters are available for Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, with features that facilitate star (hub-and-spoke) and daisy-chain network configurations, as well as redundant fiber protection. OmniConverter products are backed by a lifetime warranty, Omnitron points out, adding that they are rated to support commercial or industrial temperature ratings.

Vince Ricco, business development manager, TPP, for Axis Communications, added, “On behalf of Axis Communications, I’d like to welcome Omnitron Systems to the Technology Partner Program. Omnitron’s OmniConverters are a great complement to Axis cameras and we look forward to collaborating on future projects.”

In its announcement, Omnitron concluded, “Axis Communications is the market leader in network video and one of the most-innovative video surveillance equipment manufacturers, and Omnitron Systems provides an extensive line of hardened PoE, PoE+ and 60W HPoE media conversion solutions. Paired together, the two companies deliver a networking solution that meets the unique needs of the IP video surveillance market, providing a simple, cost-effective and reliable solution to extend surveillance network distances.”
