40G fiber, 10G copper Ethernet network interfaces target security appliances

Feb. 15, 2011
Netronome has released 10GBASE-T and 40GBASE-SR4 network modules to extend security applicance designs.

SAN FRANCISCO -- RSA Conference 2011 -- Moscone Center, Booth 2333 --- Netronome, a developer of network flow processors, announced the availability of 10GBASE-T and 40GBASE-SR4 Ethernet interfaces for use with the company's family of PCIe network acceleration cards and production-ready network processing platforms. The new interfaces are intended to enable designers of security appliances to rapidly evolve their products to keep pace with the latest changes in network infrastructure.

"With the introduction of its 40GBASE-SR4 module, Netronome is first to market with an intelligent front end for 40G Ethernet," said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group. "Netronome's unique approach enables its customers to deliver line-rate security appliances based on industry-standard platforms, minimizing development costs and time to market for equipment vendors."

The broad availability of 10GBASE-T and the introduction of 40GBASE-SR4 in switching and routing equipment drives the need for high-performance interfaces of these types in virtualized data center servers and the cyber security solutions protecting these networks.

Netronome’s new interface modules include fully integrated network bypass support, reducing the need for costly external hardware. They are specifically designed for use with Netronome’s Flow Processing Platforms. Powered by Netronome’s NFP-3240 network flow processors, the 1U and 2U platforms offer up to 200 Gbps of L2-L7 network and security application performance with sub-50 microsecond latency. The platforms target security applications that require line-rate throughput, low latency and high availability.

“Netronome pioneered flow processing and is committed to providing our customers the silicon, hardware, software and building blocks to securely process flows at the speeds required for next generation platforms,” said Jarrod Siket, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Netronome. “The new accelerated 40 Gbps and copper 10 Gbps interfaces will allow our customers to continue to meet their design goals at a fraction of the time and cost of alternative solutions.”

The 10GBASE-T and 40GBASE-SR4 network modules for Netronome’s Network Flow Processing Platforms are now available. For pricing and configuration options, contact [email protected]. Or visit www.netronome.com.
