Axis Communications has introduced its Axis A4011-E, a physical access control card reader featuring an ergonomic design with an illuminated keypad and clearly identifiable symbols.

Axis Communications has introduced its Axis A4011-E, a physical access control card reader featuring an ergonomic design with an illuminated keypad and clearly identifiable symbols. Based on proven technology from Assa Abloy, the reader supports touch-free entry with most entry card formats and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation, says Axis.

Axis says the A4011-E Reader has an intuitive user interface with illuminated symbols and a sound indicator to clearly display the status and communicate with the user. The keypad features backlight illumination and durable stainless steel buttons. The A4011-E is billed as a future-proof and generic reader that supports several different card formats in order to meet specific system requirements. It can handle two different card formats simultaneously, which simplifies system expansion and enables easy migration from one card technology to another.

Axis notes that it first entered the physical access control market with the launch of Axis A1001 network door controller last year. The company notes that the A1001 is an independent unit that can be installed at each door, completed with third-party door accessories such as sensors, door locks and readers. Although the Axis A1001 is compatible with most standard readers, the Axis A4011-E is specifically designed to work with the Axis A1001 for easy configuration.

Additional features of Axis A4011-E Reader include: support for most 13.56 MHz card formats such as iCLASS, MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Plus, MIFARE DESFire EV1 and SEOS; built-in tamper switches between housing and wall; high reading speed; supported operating conditions of -13ºF to 158ºF; and IP54 rating.

“A year ago Axis announced its entry into the physical access control market with the industry’s first non-proprietary, open IP-based Axis A1001 Network Door Controller at ASIS International,” comments Bruce Stewart, business development manager, access control, Axis Communications. "We expand this offering with the introduction of Axis A4011-E Reader, which is based on proven technology from Assa Abloy. This feature-rich and future-proof door reader is suitable for most installations, meeting our customers’ demands for a total solution.”

The Axis A4011-E Reader is expected to be available in selected countries in Q4 2014 through Axis’ standard distribution channels at the suggested retail price of $369. The new product was featured by Axis booth at the recent ASIS International tradeshow (Sept 29-Oct 1) in Atlanta.
