Allied Telesis intros Layer 3 stackable switch with PoE capabilities

Dec. 22, 2009
The AT-x600-24Ts-POE is the latest member of the Allied Telesis x600-series of stackable Gigabit switches, and the first product in this series to offer power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities.

Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching products and deployment of IP triple-play networks, has launched the AT-x600-24Ts-POE, the latest member of the x600-series of stackable Gigabit switches, and the first product in this series to offer power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. The company says this new switch offers advanced security features, port scalability, resiliency for uninterrupted network service, high-speed quality of service (QoS), and simplified network administration.

The AT-x600-24Ts-POE combines advanced Layer 3 switching functionalities with PoE. This feature set allows enterprises to connect PoE-powered devices, enabling the secure transfer of power and data to remote devices such as IP phones, security cameras, and wireless access points.

The switch is designed for enterprises that require a "true" stacking architecture for scalability, simplified network management, and high-speed connectivity between switches, resulting in a faster network without modification of existing Ethernet cabling infrastructure, says Allied Telesis. The device is suited to power VoIP phone systems because when connected to a universal power supply (UPS) it will provide power even during a grid power cut, enabling both routine and emergency calls. The integration of a standards-compatible command line interface (CLI) ensures the product is easy to manage and can be used seamlessly in networks with equipment from a variety of vendors, according to the company.

"This is the first switch in the popular x600 family to be PoE capable, allowing us to bring a new dimension of functionality to a highly effective switch family," says Dael Bartlett, director of product marketing, Allied Telesis. "By combining full PoE delivery and Gigabit Ethernet speeds, we are offering network managers a sound choice for their next-generation convergence."

The AT-x600-24Ts-POE has 24 10/100/1000T ports and four combination Gigabit small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports with dedicated stacking ports. It has full power PoE (802.3af) capabilities on all copper ports, LLDP-MED (Link Layer Discovery Protocol - Media Endpoint Discovery) support, ensuring auto discovery of devices, and a redundant power supply option, allowing the switch to continue operating even in the event of a power supply failure.
