ONVIF is an open industry forum for the development of a global standard for the interface of IP-based physical security products. Incorporated as a non-profit entity in late 2008, the ONVIF specification is being developed to ensure interoperability between IP products regardless of manufacturer through a specification that defines a common protocol for the exchange of information between network video devices including automatic device discovery, video streaming and intelligence metadata. Both companies support the ONVIF standard with officially launched offerings.

“Milestone and Bosch have worked very closely together to use the latest ONVIF specifications to achieve this plug-and-play integration of our products,” says Rudolf Spielberger, Alliance Manager for Bosch Security Systems GmbH. "Milestone is therefore the first VMS to support the Bosch NBC-200 IP cameras based on the ONVIF standard. Our companies will continue to collaborate to support our product portfolios with many exciting new features already planned for later this year.”

The Bosch NBC-225 and NBC-255 IP cameras bring Bosch’s high-performance technology into the realm of small office and retail business chains by offering cost-effective solutions for a broad range of surveillance applications. H.264 compression technology gives clear images while reducing bandwidth and storage by up to 30%. The current models in the series operate with Power-over-Ethernet and allow a choice of fixed or varifocal lenses.

The ONVIF standard integration with these two Bosch 200 series cameras allows users of Milestone XProtect IP video management software to operate video streaming in both MJPEG and H.264 with RTP/UPD protocols, and audio streaming. Milestone is also working to provide support for the full line of Bosch Dinion and Flexidome H.264 network cameras, which will be commercially available soon.

“Milestone is very excited to be the first VMS vendor to support the Bosch NBC cameras as we participate actively in working with the ONVIF standard developments for IP video, which will benefit the security industry for years to come,” says Henrik Friborg, Co-Founder and VP Strategic Alliances, Milestone Systems.

The ONVIF global standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products continues to engender strong interest from security companies worldwide, with about 180 members. Learn more at www.onvif.org.
