South Florida-based telecommunications company and ISP Hotwire Communications has deployed 25G PON technology from Nokia, making it the first North American service provider to do so.

South Florida-based telecommunications company and ISP Hotwire Communications says it has deployed 25G PON technology from Nokia, making it the first North American service provider to do so (although an operator in Toronto also recently announced the fielding of 25G PON capable equipment).

Hotwire plans to use the 25G PON technology to support symmetrical 10-Gbps services. The 25G PON deployment follows the company’s XGS-PON roll out, the first of its kind in Florida.

Established in 2002 and headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Hotwire Communications’ fiber network footprint crosses Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and California.

The company announced this past May announced a significant cash infusion from funds managed by Blackstone Tactical Opportunities and Blackstone Infrastructure Partners.

“Hotwire Communications couldn’t be more excited to partner with Nokia as we begin deploying 25G PON to multi-dwelling communities, bringing cutting-edge benefits directly to customers’ homes,” said Ron Raugh, Hotwire’s vice president of engineering. “This is just the most recent example of Hotwire substantiating our commitment to innovating and pushing the limits of what we can accomplish, setting an industry standard by adopting the latest technological solutions to deliver an unparalleled service experience to customers in our network.”
