TIA publishes new optical fiber test procedure

July 10, 2003
July 10, 2003 - Standard establishes uniform requirements for measuring uncoated optical fibers.

The Telecommunications Industry Association has published a new standard that establishes uniform requirements for measuring uncoated optical fibers.

The standard is fiber optic test procedure (FOTP)-176, IEC-60793-1-20 - Optical Fibres -- Part 1-20: Measurement Methods and Test Procedures - Fibre Geometry, TIA-455-176-A. The document is a revision of TIA/EIA-455-176.

FOTP-176 establishes uniform requirements for measuring the geometrical characteristics of uncoated optical fibers. The geometrical characteristics of uncoated optical fibers are fundamental values and are necessary for carrying out subsequent procedures such as handling, splicing, connectorization, cabling and measurements.

TIA-455-176-A was created by TIA FO-4.6 Subcommittee on Optical Fibers.

The TIA is based in Arlington, VA. For more information visit www.tiaonline.org.
