Broadband Forum focuses on DSL network implementation, testing
BroadbandSuite 6.1 gives operators a way to boost their existing copper deployments.
The Broadband Forum used last week’s DSL Acceleration event in Paris to unveil BroadbandSuite 6.1, a "superfast broadband toolkit" designed to simplify the deployment of high-speed broadband services over xDSL networks.
The toolkit pulls together several Broadband Forum technical specifications and white papers that cover implementation, functional and performance test plans, and best practices for DSL quality assurance. The BroadbandSuite 6.1 test plans enable greater interoperability and consistent multi-service delivery in the field, the forum asserts. Ultimately, the BroadbandSuite 6.1 suite aims to help operators to better architect standards-based network designs, says the forum.
“BroadbandSuite 6.1 gives operators a way to boost their existing copper deployments as a valuable part of the multi-access platform that is emerging around the world,” comments Robin Mersh, CEO of the Broadband Forum.
The forum asserts that BroadbandSuite 6.1 "sets the bar" for ADSL2plus and VDSL2 function and performance. It also defines vectoring and bonding options for DSL and describes methods for improving quality measurements, IPTV service delivery, and techniques for DSL network management.
Mersh adds, “High speed VDSL2 works well with fiber, providing operators the ability to capitalize on existing investments whilst effectively engineering hybrid FTTx solutions to minimize costs, all the while maximizing speed and reach of their superfast broadband networks.”
