HDBaseT Alliance demos single-cable 4K video delivery at NAB 2014

April 7, 2014
HDBaseT technology now facilitates an alternative to expensive SDI infrastructure that broadcast-industry control rooms and other facilities have traditionally been built around.

The HDBaseT Alliance says that its exhibit at the 2014 NAB Show (April 7-10) will show the broadcast industry how HDBaseT technology facilitates a move away from the expensive SDI infrastructure that many control rooms and other facilities have traditionally been built around to a simpler, more cost-effective LAN-cable infrastructure.

The HDBaseT Alliance's booth at NAB (#SU 11914) will feature live demonstrations of how HDBaseT technology can deliver 4K video over a single cable over long distances to significantly reduce the costs and complexities of installations. These demonstrations will be based on products by several HDBaseT Alliance members and partners including: Apantac, Gefen, Keisoku, Kramer, and Muxlab. Additionally, the Alliance will showcase new HDBaseT-enabled displays from manufacturers such as Panasonic, NEC, Samsung and Primeview. These displays are less costly than the typical HD-SDI displays and can be ideal for control rooms and broadcasting studios, claims the Alliance.

“A number of Alliance members manufacture displays and other HDBaseT products that are increasingly being used in broadcasting installations,” comments Micha Risling, marketing committee chair, HDBaseT Alliance. “Our NAB booth will feature a wide variety of products and live demonstrations that will show attendees first-hand just how much simpler and quicker HDBaseT makes the installation process.”

HDBaseT technology enables all-in-one connectivity between HD video sources and remote displays through a single 100m CAT5e/6 cable, delivering uncompressed high definition video, including 4K, audio, Ethernet, control signals and up to 100 watts of power. Powered by the Valens chipset, HDBaseT has become a global digital connectivity standard with a large and varied product ecosystem that includes video distribution equipment, displays, projectors and AV receivers from more than 80 manufacturers.
