10GBase-T addressed in Ethernet Alliance webinar

June 5, 2012
Online seminar will discuss 10GBase-T cabling and other options for 10G network cabling and connectivity.

Valerie Maguire and Ron Cates, the duo who authored this article on the availability of 10GBase-T and prospects for the future of copper cabling, will address a broader range of topics related to 10GBase-T in a webinar hosted by The Ethernet Alliance. Entitled "Ethernet 202: 10GBase-T Revamped," the webinar will be presented live, in its entirety, twice on Tuesday, June 26. The first presentation will be delivered at 12:00 noon EDT/9:00 am PDT and the second will be delivered at 7:00 pm EDT/4:00 pm PDT.

Maguire, global sales engineer with Siemon, and Cates, vice president of marketing, products with PLX Technology, will discuss the advancement and future deployment of 10G Ethernet, what it means and why it's important, according to The Ethernet Alliance. Their presentation is expected to last 40 to 50 minutes, and the seminar will be 1 hour in duration including a question-and-answer session.

"This webinar features an overview of 10G Ethernet connectivity options and various techniques to lower power dissipation when using 10GBase-T transceivers," The Ethernet Alliance explains. "It also provides a brief explanation of available 10GBase-T technology and the cabling options, a review of the key benefits of 10GBase-T technology, a brief tutorial of EMI mitigation strategies for 10GBase-T transceivers, and a list of various equipment types which use 10GBase-T interfaces."

The Alliance says the key takeaways from the seminar will include an understanding of the 10GBase-T migration that is underway, fundamental advantages of the technology, backward compatibility with slower Base-T applications, the ability to use less-expensive cables and connectors for 10G, and uniform transmission media for all data center needs.

You can register for the 12 noon EDT/9 am PDT seminar here, and for the 7 pm EDT/4 pm PDT seminar here.
