TE Connectivity expert to discuss 100-GbE architectures

June 14, 2011
Nathan Tracy, TE's global industry manager, data communications, will speak at the Ethernet Alliance's upcoming Technology Exploration Forum (TEF), focused on next-generation 100 Gigabit Ethernet interconnect specifications.

TE Connectivity (TE) announced that Nathan Tracy, the company's global industry manager, Data Communications, will be speaking at the upcoming Technology Exploration Forum (TEF), focused on next-generation 100 Gigabit Ethernet interconnect specifications. The forum will be hosted by the Ethernet Alliance on June 14th in Santa Clara, California and will bring together Ethernet industry experts to share perspectives on market drivers for 100 Gigabit Ethernet as well as key development areas for 100 Gigabit backplane and copper cabling, optics and next-generation BASE-T.

At the TEF, Mr. Tracy will share information on the electrical performance expected with a traditional backplane structure based on four channels at 25Gb/s when the latest connector technology is utilized. In addition, he will discuss the electrical performance expected if alternate materials and structures are considered.

In a second presentation, Tracy will discuss some of the newest technical advances that enable consideration of an optical data plane solution -- this includes optical transmission structures that can function as a data plane medium, optical transceiver technology and optical connector technology required to interconnect the transceiver with the optical backplane media.

"We believe it's critical to enable the movement towards 100 Gigabit interconnect specifications," says Tracy. "We fully support this move and are excited to participate in a forum that promotes next-generation thinking."

"Requirements for optics and backplanes will be key considerations as the industry moves forward with the development of 100 Gigabit interconnect specifications," adds John D'Ambrosia, Ethernet Alliance chairman. "The Ethernet Alliance TEF will provide an excellent opportunity for leaders in the Ethernet industry to discuss these types of considerations as industry-wide development work is just getting underway. We're very pleased to have TE among the companies presenting at TEF and sharing their perspective on the issues most critical to the development and adoption of 100 Gigabit Ethernet."
