Aquantia Ramps Volume Production on 10GBASE-T PHY for 10G Ethernet Data Center Connectivity

Feb. 10, 2010
The company has entered full volume production on the AQ 1002, its flagship low-power 10GBASE-T PHY solution.

Aquantia announced that it has entered full volume production on the AQ 1002, its flagship low-power 10GBASE-T PHY solution. The move comes just as industry switching and server providers Cisco and Intel have announced their support for 10GBASE-T on a range of new products, including the Cisco Catalyst 4900M, Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7000 switches, and the Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2, now enabled with dual 10GBASE-T interfaces.

“We are seeing the momentum quicken for 10GBASE-T,” comments Aquantia CEO and president Faraj Aalaei. “This was a key factor in securing our recent $44 million capital round, and it underscores that the commitment to this mainstream, standardized and cost-effective solution is growing in both switching and server architectures. Aquantia’s recent move to full volume production is in direct response to the strong uptick in market demand and to our customers’ preference for the Aquantia platform.”

Aquantia Ramps Volume Production on 10GBASE-T PHY for 10G Ethernet Data Center Connectivity

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aquantia, the leading developer of mainstream 10GBASE-T PHY solutions, announced today that it has entered full volume production on the AQ 1002, its flagship low-power 10GBASE-T PHY solution.

This move comes just as industry switching and server leaders Cisco and Intel have announced their support for 10GBASE-T on a wide range of new products, including Cisco Catalyst 4900M, Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7000 switches and the Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2, now enabled with dual 10GBASE-T interfaces.

It also follows Aquantia securing 2009’s largest round of private investment financing for a chipmaker. “We are seeing the momentum quicken for 10GBASE-T,” said Aquantia CEO and president Faraj Aalaei.

IT expert opinion broadly points to 10 Gigabit Ethernet as a Data Center interconnect standard. Notes Arthur Cole of DataCenterBusinessEdge, “It doesn't matter if your goal is IP storage, converged networking or cloud infrastructure, all trends hitting the data center these days are based on one common thread: upgrading LAN throughput. And while there are a number of ways to do that, industry consensus is that nothing short of 10 GbE will get the job done.”

Aquantia’s VP of business development Phil Delansay interviewed Cisco and Intel representatives at last week’s Cisco Live user conference, on the expected market impact of 10GBASE-T and its trajectory.
