GAO Comm (Toronto, Canada) announced the release of its multi-function optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) platform which can be used for testing in a variety of fiber-optic applications including WDM, MAN, FTTH and LAN networks.
The durable OTDR model C0250002 can create fiber event reports, fiber zone reports and fault reports. The device features a high dynamic range, high distance resolution and complete curve display. According to the company, the tool also features a short event dead zone of 1.6 m, a high resolution of 0.025 m, 128 k sampling points and a convenient visible fault location (VFL) function. It is compatible with compact flash and RS232 interfaces.

The OTDR provides three print modes including standard mode (full-size, multipage OTDR report), compressed mode (one page report) and curves (four six or eight curves on one page). It has USB ports for file transfer and software upgrades, as well as a high level antireflection TFT screen allowing results to be clearly displayed.
The device also provides a maximum dynamic range of 35/34 dB and a stable source output power of -8 dBm. In addition, it is powered by a built-in lithium battery with high capacity which provides for over 8 hours of continuous operation.
