OLTS Tests 4 Wavelengths for Enterprise LANs, Data Centers

AFL’s FlowScout Quad OLTS features a large touchscreen and provides Tier 1 certification for duplex singlemode and multimode systems.

AFL recently introduced the FlowScout Quad Optical Loss Test Set (OLTS), which joins the company’s FlowScout portfolio of fiber test apparatus. The company says FlowScout Quad is “ideal for fiber testing in enterprise LAN and data center environments. It is designed for fast, accurate Tier 1 optical loss certification of duplex fiber links and can test singlemode and multimode fiber.” It tests at 850, 1300, 1310, and 1550 nanometers.

In addition to providing Tier 1 certification, it can be used as a standalone power meter or light source. Through the use of AFL’s Wave ID format, the FlowScout Quad can automatically identify incoming wavelengths of signals sent from other AFL products that also use Wave ID.

“The test set design is based on a precise, highly accurate testing technology to ensure accurate verification and validation of links,” the company said. “A simple icon-based user interface allows technicians to quickly set up, test, validate, and document fiber networks. The FlowScout Quad OLTS measures and automatically evaluates pass/fail loss against industry or user-set limits. The large color touchscreen displays detected power levels with color-coded pass/fail indications.”

Users can transfer measured pass/fail limits and device information from internal memory for download via Bluetooth or USB. Results may be wirelessly transferred to AFL’s FlexReporter cloud using the company’s FlexApp on iOS or Android mobile devices. In FlexReporter, results can be analyzed and edited, and users can generate reports.
