LinkXpert SQ is the latest test instrument from Softing, offering qualification of installed copper links for up to 10G Ethernet, evaluation of fiber links for up to 100G Ethernet, and diagnostics of WiFi as well as Power over Ethernet up to 90 Watts.

When introducing the new tester, Softing noted, “Before upgrading a switch or troubleshooting a connection, there is a practical question to answer: What Ethernet data rate can the installed link support? The new Softing LinkXpert SQ network qualifier helps technicians answer that question with copper qualification up to 10 Gbits/sec and fiber qualification up to 100 Gbits/sec. It also brings WiFi diagnostics and PoE++ testing into the same device, supporting work across mixed-network environments.”

The company adds that installers and network teams will find value in obtaining a test result that enables quick and efficient decision-making. “Assess the link, investigate a fault, and document the outcome with a tool built for qualification, commissioning, and troubleshooting,” Softing says.

For copper cabling systems, LinkXpert SQ supports Ethernet qualification at 10 Mbits, 100 Mbits, 1 Gbit, 2.5 Gbits, 5 Gbits, and 10 Gbits/sec. “That range gives technicians a way to evaluate links for the Ethernet rate required by the project,” Softing notes. “Whether the goal is a move to multigigabit Ethernet or an assessment of an existing installation, qualification provides information to help guide the choice. When a copper link needs further investigation, integrated numerical TDR and wiremap functions support troubleshooting. Qualification and fault investigation can be part of the same visit.”

For fiber, LInkXpert SQ support qualification for Ethernet applications at 1, 10, 40, and 100 Gbits/sec. It uses attenuation and length values in accordance with IEEE 802.3, with appropriate SFP modules, giving technicians and teams a basis for assessing whether the fiber link meets the requirements of the selected Ethernet application.

Softing also details the value of its WiFi and PoE evaluation capability: “Consider a service call involving a wireless access point,” the company says. “The investigation may involve the wireless environment, the copper connection feeding the device, and the power delivered over that connection. LinkXpert SQ combines WiFi and Ethernet diagnostics with PoE++ testing up to 90W. Alongside copper troubleshooting functions, those capabilities support investigation across several parts of that connection.” It adds that a useful way to think about a tool for mixed network is that it allows the test technician to follow the connection and choose the relevant test as the investigation develops.

With LinkXpert SQ, autotests can be predefined with site and network profiles, which helps keep recurring tests consistent. Each autotest produces a pass/fail evaluation and a PDF report is immediately available for download.
