Spectra7 Microsystems Inc., a provider of high-performance analog semiconductors for broadband connectivity applications, announced on Oct. 29 that Molex has achieved "production ready" status with its Spectra7 -enabled 400Gbps Active Copper Cables (ACCs).

“We are thrilled to have Molex as a collaborator for our 400Gbps GaugeChanger technology," said Spectra7 CEO Raouf Halim. "They are a technology and market leader in the hyperscale interconnect market."

Spectra7 bills its GaugeChanger as "an innovative and disruptive technology" that allows copper to extend to much longer lengths "without the cost and power penalty of optics." The company says the technology works equally well at 25Gbps NRZ, 50Gbps PAM4 and 100Gbps PAM4 transmission speeds, enabling new connector standards of 100, 200, 400Gbps.

"Spectra7 has created a compelling solution to address the dramatically increasing power and cost of data center interconnects," commented Chad Jameson, General Manager, IO Solutions at Molex. “We are seeing significant interest from our largest customers for 400Gbps ACCs with Spectra7 technology and are pleased to have these cables moving into production.”

First customers and deployments for the Molex 400Gbps ACCs are expected in North America.
