L-com overhauls bulk Ethernet cabling

Sept. 10, 2013
More than 25 new product options added.

L-com has updated its bulk Ethernet cabling category of products, simplifying the selection and adding more than 25 new options to the product line-up.

According to the company, the re-design sorts bulk cable types in the different Category ratings by four factors: shielding type, jacket rating (if applicable), conductor type (solid or stranded), and jacket material. Many of the cable types are then broken down by jacket color and special conditions such as 2 pair or 4 pair varieties, hi-flex or outdoor rated.

The new cable types are all solid conductor Category 5e and Category 6. Solid conductors are ideal for long, permanent or semi-permanent installations, notes L-com. Horizontal premise cable is generally solid conductor; solid conductor also terminates easily into standard IDC connectors and panels. The new cables are made to complement L-com’s existing line of stranded bulk cables, intended for patch cable use.

In addition to the new products, L-com continues to offer a variety of T1/E1, Category 3, Category 6a, and flat modular ("silver satin") cables, along with its existing Category 5e and Category 6 bulk cables. "It is my hope that this update will provide a greater array of options for our customers, as well as making those options easier to browse through and identify," comments David Gallagher, product manager at L-com.
