Cable supplier responds to UL notice

StarTech initiating a corrective-action investigation.

StarTech.com has issued a statement concerning the recent public notice issued by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) about a StarTech product. The UL alert, issued January 15, said that certain cable with StarTech packaging bears the UL mark even though it is not authorized to do so, and furthermore the cable “is missing required flame retardant elements.”

StarTech issued this statement on January 24: “StarTech.com has been an ISO 9001 registered company since 1998 and is currently certified as ISO 9001:2008 compliant. As such, we take this matter seriously and have issued an internal Corrective Action Report (CAR) and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Based on the outcome of our investigation, appropriate action will be taken.” The company said anyone requiring additional information can contact StarTech’s manager of quality and compliance, Mike Avarello, at [email protected].
