Siemon recently concluded its promotion titled the Z-Max Termination Challenge by rewarding the three fastest installers of the outlet with cash prizes. Two of those installers recorded termination times under 30 seconds. “This online contest challenged cabling contractors to test their skills against fellow cabling pros to see who could perform the fastest termination using Siemon’s innovative Z-Max RJ-45 outlet,” the company explained. “The contest asked contractors to send Siemon a video of their fastest Z-Max termination and offered prizes to the top performers.”

The winners were:

  • 1st Place, $1000 cash prize—Curtis Shawn Repp of Envision Technologies in Lenexa KS. Curtis completed the termination in 23.5 seconds.
  • 2nd Place, $500 cash prize—Alberto Luna of Total Network Consulting in Snellville, GA. Alberto completed the termination in 28.9 seconds. (Alberto was also named Cabling Icon in that contest’s second season.)
  • 3rd Place, $250 cash prize—Taylor Gray of I2 Solutions in Naples, FL. Taylor completed the termination in 32 seconds.

Siemon’s manager of channel development, Andy Reynolds, commented, “When we first launched Z-Max, we were pretty conservative in our termination time estimates, suggesting it could be consistently performed in about 60 seconds. But since then, contractors in the field have regularly reported significantly faster results.” Siemon developed the concept for the Z-Max Termination Challenge to validate these reports, the company added.

Reynolds said the video entries exceeded the company’s expectations. “Frankly, we were floored at how fast they all were. Not one entry came in slower than our original 60-second estimate.”
