Patton unveils new managed, copper-bonding Ethernet extenders

Patton Electronics says it is now taking pre-orders for its CopperLink CL2300 Managed Ethernet Extender series.

Patton Electronics announced that it is now taking pre-orders for its CopperLink CL2300 Managed Ethernet Extender series. Manufactured at Patton’s Gaithersburg, Maryland plant headquarters, the CL2300 can bond up to four copper twisted pairs for Ethernet extension over existing voice-grade copper cabling with symmetrical speeds up to 60 Mbps.

“Customers asked us to create a smarter copper-based Ethernet extension solution that can be managed remotely and securely," comments Johnnie Grant, CopperLink product manager. "The CopperLink 2300 is our answer. Our newest CopperLink has more features than any of its predecessors, with the same simple plug-and-play operation our customers love.”

Patton's CL2300 4-port managed Ethernet extenders feature remote management via RS-232 console with such security features as SSH and Stateful Firewall, plus optional Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) on one of the four Ethernet ports. The CL2300 line-bonding Ethernet-over-copper extender can achieve distances up to 27,000 feet over standard copper twisted pairs, claims Patton.

Perhaps the greatest customer benefit of Patton’s CopperLink line is extending the useful life of existing (and ubiquitous) copper network infrastructures, notes the company. “You can use what you’ve already got,” points out Patton's Grant. “The time and cost of installing new fiber, or even Cat 5, can easily turn any networking project into a non-starter.”
