Economy-priced in-line Cat 6 lightning and surge protectors

L-com has expanded its ELP series protector line.

L-com has expanded its ELP series protector line with two new Cat 6 lightning and surge protectors. Like the company's previous Cat 5 models, the new units protect valuable equipment from static discharge, lightning and faulty wiring.

Designed for use with 10/100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet networks, the indoor Cat 6 protectors feature RJ45 jacks and easily connect in-line with existing data cables. Both of the ELP-CAT6 series protectors are compatible with 802.3af/at Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) devices and support PoE mode A and B for power. The ELP-CAT6 model also features a small Ethernet jumper cable so no additional data lines are needed when used with existing data lines.

The ELPD-CAT6 model is designed for DIN applications. A mounting clip located on the rear of the unit allows it to be mounted to standard DIN 3 rails. This model also includes an Ethernet jumper cable. For multiple DIN protector installations, 3, 5 and 10 position busbars are available to combine all the protector grounds together.

Given the cost of replacing damaged equipment and the resultant loss of productivity, the cost of an in-line suppressor is small, contends the company. "L-com's inline style Cat6 protectors are easy to install, built for maximum durability and feature rugged aluminum construction," says Patrick Pesa, director of product management at L-Com. "At this low price they are worth the investment to protect valuable equipment."
