Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) says it has supplied its 5170 Service Aggregation Switch to US Electrodynamics, Inc. (USEI), a satellite and telecommunications company based in Washington state. The switch deployment is part of a fiber network upgrade that will see USEI increase the transmission rate of its backbone fiber-optic network from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps.
USEI serves customers in such verticals as the broadcast, aviation, maritime, and government markets via a network that includes teleports in Brewster, WA, and Vernon Valley, NJ. Use of the 5170 will enable USEI to speed service deployment and increase flexibility, Ciena says. USEI will be able to configure circuits to customer requirements, while an end-to-end testing capability that proves circuit configuration and connectivity will enhance reliability.
“This USEI network upgrade to support 100G is central to our ability in staying ahead of today’s customer requirements while in parallel, building a network that supports the latest advantages of data science and data transport utilizing machine learning and deep learning to enable a better future of the highest speed networks, from very small to very big,” commented Jim Veeder, CEO and owner of USEI.
Ciena unveiled the 5170 Service Aggregation Switch in November of last year. The platform recently earned a 4 Diamond rating in sister site Broadband Technology Report’s 2018 Diamond Technology Reviews program.
