Leviton today announced it has consolidated all of its plenum data center fiber cable manufacturing to its Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina facility.
The company said this insourcing capability is made possible by its September 2020 acquisition of U.S. cable manufacturer Berk-Tek, and makes Leviton a fully integrated company that manufactures its own fiber cable, connectors, connectivity hardware and cable assemblies.
The company said this business move offers hyperscale, cloud or enterprise data center managers more options, faster response times and more cost effectiveness as they deploy, update or expand their networks.
"Integrating our own plenum-rated fiber cable into our pre-terminated fiber cable assemblies is a key step following the acquisition of Berk-Tek," commented Dave Mullen, senior product manager for Leviton Network Solutions.
Mullen continued, "It helps us further optimize our service and logistics to provide data center assemblies quickly and cost-effectively. Also, by directly controlling both the manufacturing of the fiber cable and the fiber cable assemblies, Leviton is now able to increase its capacity and further expand its product line, making what is often times a custom configuration for some manufacturers, a standard offering for Leviton."
