Digest covers data center cabling, management options
March 25, 2013
Collection of articles takes a realistic look at 40G cabling, DCIM and other topics.
An editorial guide now available from Cabling Installation and Maintenance provides practical information about cabling options for 40G transmission systems, as well as an overview of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and the extent to which it incorporates cabling and connectivity. The guide, titled “Data Center Cabling Options and Management Approaches,” also includes an article that provides firsthand experience on what it takes to build and cable a data center for the United States government.
A description of the guide, its contents and its relevance says, “Structured cabling systems are integral to a data center’s network performance, management and security. The selection of cabling types, performance levels and management methods are critical decisions that affect both the near- and long-term operation of a data center network.” It then explains that the guide’s contents address “the ability of cabling systems to handle current- and future-generation network speeds, the place of cabling infrastructure in overall data center asset management, and tips for ensuring that a data center’s cabling system maintains the facility’s highly secure nature.”
