euNetworks deploys 40 km hollowcore fiber system, minus mid-span amplification

Jan. 20, 2023
Use of the new fiber is exclusive to the UK's euNetworks and its customers and delivers ultra low latency performance.

Western Europe's euNetworks Fiber UK Limited (euNetworks) this month reported its deployment of an additional 26 km of hollowcore fiber cable for network communications between the municipalities of Basildon and London. The new fiber plant is connected to an initial 14 km of hollowcore fiber cable deployed by the UK-based bandwidth infrastructure provider in September 2022. With the new deployment, euNetworks  says it now offers an end-to-end hollowcore fiber route from Basildon to The London Stock Exchange in London, delivering what the company reckons as a global first, with a 40 km total fiber-optic system distance -- which, significantly, employs no mid-span amplification devices.

As with previously deployed hollowcore routes, use of the new fiber is exclusive to euNetworks and its customers, and delivers ultra low latency performance. euNetworks has already successfully deployed three hollowcore fiber-based routes, and says it is committed to augmenting its leading position across major trading routes, delivering the best available latencies in the market. The company noted that its future hollowcore deployments will target further ultra low latency metropolitan and long haul routes across Europe to support euNetworks’ high frequency trading (HFT) customers.

Paula Cogan, CEO of euNetworks, commented:

“We continue to be focused on delivering the best possible bandwidth solutions for our customers and look forward to deploying longer routes of hollowcore fiber in the coming quarters. We have great teams focused on deploying this product on our network to maintain market-leading latency margins in our euTrade services.”
