SPAWAR soliciting bids for cabling installation

Fiber and copper installation project will take place at the U.S. Naval base in Yokosuka, Japan.

To put a twist on an old marketing slogan from the United States Navy ... it's not just a cabling job, it's an adventure.

The Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) has issued a solicitation for the installation of cable, connectors and patch panels. The solicitation for the small-business set-aside was issued on April 19 and responses are due by 10am PDT on May 4. The project will take place at the Navy base in Yokosuka, Japan.

The full request for quote (RFQ) can be downloaded from this web page, which also describes other bidding requirements.

In the RFQ, SPAWAR specifies the following products and systems.

  • 4, 24-port angled Category 5e RJ45 fully wired to 4-port RJ21-connector panel
  • 12, 48-port angled Category 5e RJ45 fully wired to 8-port RJ21-connector panel
  • 1, power supply (0 to 60 Vdc, 0 to 20 A, 1200W output power)
  • 2, rack-mount 1300-nm SM/MM 25-dB fiber-optic modem with ST interface
  • 12, closet connector housing panels, LC duplex adapters, 62.5-m MM
  • 12, closet connector housing panels, LC duplex adapters, SM
  • 16, 25-pair plenum-rated Category 5e cable assemblies with RJ21 straight connectors on both ends in 100-foot lengths
  • 4, 25-pair plenum-rated Category 5e cable assemblies with RJ21 straight connectors on both ends in 50-foot lengths
  • 8, 25-pair plenum-rated Category 5e cable assemblies with RJ21 straight connectors on both ends, 8-foot lengths
  • 32, 25-pair cable assemblies with RJ21 straight connectors on both ends (no rating specified), 20-foot lengths

The RFQ specifies brand names and part numbers, but also allows responses with "equal-to" products accompanied by technical specifications for review.
