December 17, 2007 -- Dura-Line Corp. has introduced its FuturePath system, which provides users with the ability to install the company's pre-configured MicroDucts and additional fiber cables as demands on a network increase.

The MicroDucts are small high-density polyethylene (HDPE) ducts, ranging in size from 5 mm to 16 mm (OD), specifically designed to be installed in new 3/4-inch to 2-inch (19.05-mm to 58.8-mm) or existing 1-inch to 2-inch (25.4-mm to 58.8-mm) installations with an existing cable. The FuturePath system allows the MicroDucts to be pre-packaged into one easy-to-install bundle. According to the company, this capability lowers the cost of deployment, while placing the largest number of MicroDucts into the smallest space possible.

Utilizing the same space as a 1-1/4-inch duct, the FuturePath system provides seven pathways for fiber-optic cables and the opportunity to defer additional costs of extra fiber until the need is present. The system is deployed like a standard duct, using directional drilling, open trenching, plowing, underground placing, and aerial methods.

The FuturePath system is available in different configurations, utilizing 5-mm to 16-mm MicroDucts. Different sizes and quantities of MicroDucts can be used within the FuturePath to meet network design requirements (for example, the system is available with two or up to 19 MicroDucts to meet the needs of the network and space requirements).

"No two installations are the same, but the versatility and the ability to customize the FuturePath allow end users' specific needs to be met," comments Tim Grimsley, vice president, telecom and CATV, sales and marketing, at Dura-Line.
