April 3, 2007 -- At last week's ISC West show, Milestone Systems introduced its XProtect Corporate product, which was recognized as the first third-party IP software management platform to support Pelco's IP cameras.

April 3, 2007 -- At last week's ISC West in Las Vegas, Milestone Systems launched its next-generation XProtect Corporate product, billed by the company as "a premium IP video surveillance solution ideally suited for large installations" featuring centralized management capability for unlimited numbers of users, cameras, servers and sites.

According to Milestone, the XProtect Corporate platform is designed for large, multi-site and multiple server installations requiring 24/7 surveillance. The platform enables easy centralized management of unlimited numbers of devices, servers and users via an extremely flexible rule system driven by schedules and events. A distributed server architecture allows unlimited recording and archiving of video. Full-fledged client access provides live view, playback and video evidence export with smart search and analysis, all operated through standard computers and GUI.

Like all Milestone software offerings, XProtect Corporate is independent in its support for a wide choice of network cameras and encoders from different leading manufacturers. The open platform also includes Application Program Interfaces (APIs) for integration with third-party systems. Based on .Net technology, the platform's premium features support optimal application in large implementations requiring centralized management and remote operation, says the company.

"XProtect Corporate will be a very welcome IP video surveillance solution for Microsoft professionals who are used to working with the advantages of network infrastructure and IT systems," contends Kim Macallan, head of product management at Milestone Systems. "We've had a great team of innovative systems engineers developing this product, drawing on our years of expertise in open platform IP video management software, fed by market input from our global channel of partners with more than 25,000 customer installations."

According to Milestone, the platform's other key features include a hardware detection wizard that scans the network to discover IP cameras and video encoders from leading vendors, searching by IP range with automatic model identification. This capability makes large system setups or moves "very fast," says the company, and new camera additions a simple matter.

The company also notes that the platform's flexible rules systems operate across all servers and all cameras or by customized groups - for instance, to record images based on motion detection. Camera settings can also be changed or made to perform dynamically across groups. For example, cameras can record at a certain time or on specific days, either individually or by groups.

Pelco, Milestone Systems collaborate

Also at ISC West, the video security equipment provider Pelco announced that it's newly launched Camclosure series of IP-based network video cameras are supported by the Milestone XProtect IP video management platform. Pelco said the initiative comes as a result of an early development program with Milestone Systems, whereby the companies collaborated in developing Milestone XProtect support for the new hardware products.

Pelco says its IP110 Series is the first system available in the Camclosure IP family. The system features multiple lens and camera options including Day/Night Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), Day/Night High Resolution, Color WDR, and Color High Resolution. The company says the system's WDR pixel-based imagers digitize light at the point of capture, producing remarkably clear images in any lighting condition, with impressive low light sensitivity at full frame rate.

"We have selected Milestone as the first recognized third-party IP software management platform to support Pelco IP cameras, and we have worked with them during the development of the application pogram iterface. Milestone has integrated their software solutions to work with our cameras, with the goal to have this integration ready for the cameras' launch," comments Dave Smith, VP of product strategy at Pelco.

According to the companies, users of the new Pelco IP cameras will have the opportunity to experience the Milestone XProtect software with a free one-camera license that will be included in the camera packages.

"Pelco is a noble giant in the security industry, well-known for its reliability and satisfied customers. Milestone also delivers dependable, robust and proven IP video solutions worldwide, so it's a natural and positive synergy for us to provide the first software management solution for Pelco's new cameras," concludes Lars Thinggaard, CEO of Milestone Systems.
