Youtube's Network Advisor recently offered up this "simple step-by-step [instructional video] on how to crimp a network plug on the end of a Cat5e cable."

"Seeing things in detail is crucial for this process," opines the installer, while adding, "In professional installations, terminations of horizontal cabling should be done on a patch panel. However, for one-off situations or when a short cable is needed, running a cable from the switch or router to the workstation and then crimping both ends with modular RJ-45s will still work fine."
