At last month's ISC West show in Las Vegas, Ruckus Wireless, a part of Brocade, announced a collaboration with Pelco by Schneider Electric, a manufacturer of video surveillance and security solutions, which combines Ruckus' ZoneFlex access points (APs) and ICX switches with Pelco by Schneider Electric's IP cameras and video management system (VMS) solutions, to offer flexible installation options and enhanced solutions for physical security.

"Combining Ruckus Wi-Fi and Ethernet switching with industry-leading IP video solutions offers system integrators the ability to deploy and operate cameras that receive their power and backhaul from either Ethernet switches or Wi-Fi APs without sacrificing quality or security," said Bart Giordano, vice president of business development, Ruckus Business Unit at Brocade. "Through our solution, IP video is deployed with reduced cost, time and complexity for a wide variety of applications. This offers significant benefits to the physical security industry and we are proud to enter the market working alongside a key technology leader."

According to a press release, "by leveraging the Ruckus SmartMesh wireless technology, it is now possible to deploy self-organizing and healing networks specifically suited for video applications. This allows for robust video delivery with a high level of tamper resistance and low latency video monitoring functionality at sites where traditional wired connectivity is not available. IP cameras can now be installed for permanent or temporary placement alongside wireless access points, without any need to run dedicated wired backhaul to the location."

The companies note that system integrators today typically select locations for IP video and Wi-Fi APs in isolation. The ability to co-locate equipment and share backhaul enables venues and integrators to more easily plan their security and networking requirements and manage these systems over a common secure network infrastructure. The offering reduces installation cost and increases operational efficiency to deploy Wi-Fi access along with IP video for smart cities, large public venues, education, casino gaming, hospitality and other applications.

"At Pelco by Schneider Electric, our goal is to deliver meaningful innovations. We are able to accomplish this by partnering with technology experts to bring new and improved surveillance and security solutions to life," said Diane Feliciano, vice president of global marketing at Pelco by Schneider Electric. "Partnering with Ruckus Wireless gives us the opportunity to deliver a unique solution: best-in-class Pelco IP camera technology combined with the ease and flexibility of Ruckus' wireless capabilities. Customers can be confident this integrated solution provides what they need, when they need it most."
