George Zimmerman advising Aquantia on 10GBase-T technology

April 24, 2013
10GBase-T pioneer Zimmerman has joined the technical advisory board of Aquantia, which has shipped 1 million 10GBase-T ports.

Aquantia recently announced that George Zimmerman has been appointed to the company’s technical advisory board, which advises the company on issues of technology innovation and evolution, the company says. Zimmerman was founder of semiconductor Solarflare Communications and “has served as a defining force in the development of 10GBase-T technology,” Aquantia said when announcing his appointment. “He led the initial formation of the IEEE 10GBase-T Study Group and was a significant contributor throughout the 802.3an standards process.”

Aquantia’s vice president of sales and marketing, Kamal Dalmia, commented, “Dr. Zimmerman has an extensive range of technical experience and insight into copper technologies. We are thrilled to have someone with his credentials continue to lend his expert guidance to the development of the Base-T ecosystem.”

Prior to Solarflare, Zimmerman was chief scientist and vice president of strategic planning for PairGain Technologies, which created technology for Digital Subscriber Line transmission. Previously, he was associated with the California Institute of Technology and NASA in technology-innovation roles. Zimmerman holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.

Aquantia develops 10GBase-T PHYs for high-density switches as well as 10GBase-T LAN-on-motherboard (LOM) servers. Earlier this year Aquantia achieved the milestone of having shipped 1 million 10GBase-T ports.
