Latest release supports enhanced data integrity and SRIOV in KVM environments.

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE: ELX) announced that its portfolio of OneConnect 10Gb/s Ethernet, Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) and LightPulse Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) are now supported on the new Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 platform, introduced this week.

"Emulex connectivity solutions provide enterprise-proven connectivity for customers utilizing the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, given our commitment to best-in-class performance, scalability and support for varied workloads," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. "Customers can leverage our connectivity solutions and management software within the new Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform no matter what their environment -- physical, virtual or cloud."

With Emulex HBAs and UCNAs, the company says that customers can leverage the efficiency, scalability and reliability provided by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, as well as the power of server virtualization provided by the KVM Linux kernel virtualization infrastructure.

Additionally, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is the first Red Hat operating system release to support the T10-P1 enhanced data integrity standard. Enhanced data integrity, prevents the occurrence of silent data corruption, improving system availability. This new functionality is available as a Technology Preview in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, and is supported by Emulex's LightPulse 8Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs.

One of the most notable features supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is Single Root I/O Virtualization (SRIOV). This feature facilitates the offloading of I/O functions from the hypervisor to host-based I/O controllers that are SRIOV-capable, improving performance and facilitating 10Gb/s Ethernet throughput allocation across multiple virtual machines in KVM environments.

SRIOV is an important feature of Emulex's next generation OneConnect UCNAs, based on the company's BladeEngine 3 (BE3) 10Gb/s Ethernet I/O Controller (IOC), and is being introduced on these UCNAs in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Emulex's OneCommand Vision software will also support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, giving Linux customers the ability to proactively manage the I/O flow across physical, virtual or cloud environments, and configure data center resources to solve bandwidth and contention issues within their infrastructure.
