Motorola and Nokia Collaborate to Create Network Solution for U.K. Defense Agencies
In a recent press release, Motorola Solutions announced a partnership with Nokia to develop a next-generation tactical communications network solution for the United Kingdom's defense agencies. The solution will use Motorola’s deployable Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) infrastructure and Nokia’s 5G AirScale portfolio to provide military front lines with secure, reliable, voice and data communications.
"Secure, resilient and real-time connectivity is crucial for modern military operations,” commented Fergus Mayne, Motorola’s U.K. and Ireland country manager. “With Nokia, we’re providing defense forces with powerful, next-generation communications to help bring critical information to the front lines. This innovative communications solution builds on our global footprint in mission-critical land mobile radio and previous containerized network solutions to address the dynamic and evolving needs of modern defense operations.”
This next-generation modular solution comes in rugged, deployable containers and is operable in under 30 minutes. The solution features Motorola’s Silvus MANET technology, which “provides the resilient backhaul to extend connectivity across diverse operational environments and extensive geographical areas.” The company describes the Silvus mesh network as self-healing, scalable, and enabling enhanced situational awareness, control, and command.
“Our collaboration with Motorola Solutions to develop a compact, modular solution for reliable mission-critical communications underscores the unmatched flexibility of our private 4G and 5G solutions, designed to meet the evolving needs of defense,” stated Giuseppe Targia Nokia’s head of Space and Defense. “Our industry-leading technology enables secure, high-speed data, voice and video connectivity, empowering military operations in the most demanding environments.”
