Leviton questions OM5 fiber need; Legrand gets AFCO for DCs: The week's top stories

Here are the cabling, wireless, and data center infrastructure industry's top trending news stories from the past week, as compiled by Cabling Installation & Maintenance and CablingInstall.com.

1.)Leviton: OM5 fiber? Meh. - In a recent blog post, Leviton’s senior director of product management for fiber and data center solutions, Gary Bernstein, offers counterpoints to several reasons data centers may choose to install OM5 wideband multimode fiber (WBMMF).

2.) Legrand acquires data center containment-system, cabinet manufacturer AFCO Systems - Legrand North and Central America (LNCA) announced it has acquired AFCO Systems, which designs, engineers, and manufactures data center racks, cabinets, enclosures and air-containment systems.

3.) City of Sacramento deploys first small cell site - Working with 5 BARS, a provider of small cell and distributed antenna systems (DAS) infrastructure and Wi-Fi wireless services, the City of Sacramento has approved its first small cell test sites with two major wireless carriers. Hundreds of applications are reportedly in process for smalls cells throughout the city.

4.) How dense is the edge at your typical micro-data center? - For the answer, Data Center Knowledge turned to Alex Pope, director, unified infrastructure, at Vertiv (formerly Emerson Network Power), who’s seen firsthand many micro data center deployments.

5.) Rittal, Edge Mission Critical Systems team up on extreme-environment modular data center solutions - Rittal Corporation recently teamed up with Edge Mission Critical Systems (Edge MCS) to support Edge’s Binary Bunker brand modular data center systems that are designed to support edge network applications. Binary Bunkers contain Rittal enclosure, racking and cooling products.
