Fiber Broadband Association Report: AI’s Growth Depends on Fiber

Business Wire covered that the Fiber Broadband Association released a report, Accelerating AI with Fiber: Systems and Strategies, which showed that fiber broadband is the foundation for many innovations utilizing AI. This includes data centers, networks, smart home applications, and more. By working with Entropy, Inc., the FBA made the report to look into the correlations between AI and fiber. At its simplest, the study showed the roots of what AI requires. AI needs data, data requires data centers, and finally, the foundation for it all, data centers must have fiber connectivity.

As AI continues to grow, Accelerating AI with Fiber: Systems and Strategies, makes it clear that fiber broadband plays an imperative role in delivering the low latency, fast speeds, and high capacity infrastructure that it requires. “Without fiber, AI-powered advancements ranging from real-time cloud computing to autonomous systems will be limited by network constraints.”

The report primarily discusses three main areas where fiber is crucial regarding AI, AI data centers, AI fiber networks, and AI fiber homes. “AI is only as powerful as the network that supports it,” said Gary Bolton, President, and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association. “Fiber is the only broadband technology capable of delivering the speed, scalability, and reliability AI requires- from hyperscale data centers to smart homes. This report demonstrates why fiber is the backbone of the AI revolution.”

The report shows that fiber is not just the foundation of AI, but is also “the infrastructure that will determine AI’s success”.
