Clearfield Fiber Solutions Support Hurricane Recovery Efforts in the British Virgin Islands

Modular fiber infrastructure helps accelerate broadband restoration and improve network resiliency following hurricane damage

Clearfield press release  looks at how the company’s modular fiber connectivity solutions are helping accelerate hurricane recovery efforts in the British Virgin Islands. The solutions are supporting the restoration and expansion of broadband infrastructure following severe storm damage.

The British Virgin Islands’ network is built on Clearfield’s FieldSmart Fiber Distribution Hub (FDH) cabinets, Clearview Blue Cassettes, FieldShield fiber and microduct solutions, and the YOURx-Terminal plug-and-play platform.

Clearfield notes that working with BVI Cable TV and Caribbean Cellular Telephone Ltd. (CCT) led to solutions that could accommodate the region.

The company states, “To support the island’s branching road layout, Clearfield engineers developed a three-port version of the terminal, allowing fiber splits to be pre-configured at intersections without splicing. This reduced the need for specialized labor and made field work more efficient.”

According to the company, the deployment demonstrates how modular fiber solutions can help service providers restore connectivity more quickly in disaster-affected regions while also improving long-term network resiliency.

The project utilized Clearfield’s modular fiber platform to simplify deployment and reduce installation complexity in challenging conditions. The company says this helped streamline fiber construction and allowed for faster restoration of communications services.

CCT and BVI Cable TV were able to adapt deployments as field conditions and priorities shifted throughout the rebuild.

The hurricanes showed that not only is there a need for quick communications networks’ restoration but also resiliency in areas prone to severe weather events.
