Atlona Releases Product Alternative to Touch Panels for AV

Jan. 24, 2024
The AT-VKP-8E provides a simpler and more straightforward process for users in smaller environments such as classrooms.

Background on the keypad controller

Atlona recently launched what it considers to be “an alternative to touch panels for AV control in smaller spaces and less complex applications”. The AT-VKP-8E utilizes IP-based system control in environments where a simple keypad interface is desired. Although the product is available immediately, it will officially have a worldwide debut at Stand 2Q200 during ISE 2024 at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via which is occurring from January 30th to February 2nd.

Justin Kennedy, Product Manager for Atlona, commented on the AT-VKP-8E stating, “We designed this new keypad controller to address some shortcomings of touch panel control systems in simpler applications. The VKP-8E is a complete AV control system with simple yet customizable user interface that is perfect for most classrooms and small conference rooms.”

Features of Atlona’s AT-VKP-8E

The AT-VKP-8E has 8 configurable buttons that can control display on/off, source selection, audio volume levels, and more. For further customization it has a 2.7-inch high-contrast e-paper display. Users can assign specific text and icons with particular buttons and also switch between different display layouts. “RGB LEDs for each button and a multistep level indicator can be used to indicate system status. The PoE LAN connection provides power to the controller and the ability to control devices over Ethernet. An RS-232 port is included for serial control for legacy devices.”

The device utilizes the new Atlona Cloud online configuration and management platform for setup. The Atlona Cloud provides “an intuitive interface for defining the e-paper label/icon and LED color for each button as well as macros for controlling room technology added from an extensive database of Atlona and third-party drivers”. Pre-configured templates are available for the controller and when setup is complete the file can be sent straight to the keypad from the cloud or offline over the locan area network (LAN).

The AT-VKP-8E is available as two different wall mount forms. The VKP-8E is made for one-gang junction boxes in North America, while the AT-VKP-8E-EU is designed for one-gang junction boxes in the EU and UK.
