Fiber-optic security system monitors 21M-sf Chinese distribution center

Feb. 11, 2011
Four hundred pairs of fiber-optic modems and three matrix switchers from Infinova provide surveillance of the massive center.

The Yiwu International Commercial Center, located in the Zhejiang Province of china and said to be the largest distribution center in the world for small commodities, uses a fiber-optic-based video-monitoring system to transmit images within the 2-million square meter (21.5-million square foot) facility. Included in the fiber-optic video system are the V2060 series large-scale matrix switchers as well as nearly 400 pairs of digital fiber-optic modems from Infinova.

With the matrix switchers, Infinova says, Yiwu International Commerce Center security operators can provide automated electronic surveillance or allow a single user to control an entire CCTV system of up to 1,024 video inputs by 128 video outputs. In the automated environment, the user can predefine up to 64 system tours, 64 salvos, 35 event timers, 5 alarm-display modes and 3 alarm-clearance modes to be performed separately on individual monitors. The company says that multiple versions of its fiber-optic modems are deployed. They feature 1-, 4-, 8-, 12- and 16-channel video depending on the model.

"The economy of China has been growing and Infinova continues to tap into its modernization programs with its full suite of leading-edge video products and systems," said Mark Wilson, vice president of marketing with Infinova. "For instance, our video matrix switchers are the only ones to feature Ethernet networking capability. They are also available with Video over IP that allows users to select, vidw and PTZ control from four to thousands of cameras from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Our fiber-optic transmission systems feature the industry's best optical power budget, widest optical dynamic range and highest racking density."
