March 13, 2008 -- At ISC West 2008, MDI Security Systems formally launched its PointGuard Xtreme platform, which is comprised of IP-based access control software and hardware. The company says the scalable system was designed in partnership with security dealers and IT integrators to meet universal requirements and security budgets for organizations of all sizes.

The PointGuard Xtreme baseline product is capable of expanding from 2 readers to 512 readers; for larger system requirements, the platform offers numerous enterprise-level modular software plug-ins (including HSPD-12 for government) and an upgrade path for up to 16,384 readers. Comprehensive system training can be accomplished in under one day and will be available online, says the company. Aimed at small to medium sized security dealers and based on MDI's ONE Unified Technology platform, the system's open architecture enables seamless expansion from single door, basic access control product, to enterprise command and control applications, according to the company.

The PointGuard Xtreme Ready-Kit is a bundled turn-key access control package, available using a single part number for system configurations between 2 and 12 doors. The kits arrive pre-wired, pre-configured and ready to install and use. The company says this packaging option dramatically reduces preparation, installation, troubleshooting and programming time for the integrator.

To gain immediate market adoption and decrease the field hardware configuration learning curve, MDI has integrated the PointGuard Xtreme platform with all five series of Mercury Security's access control panels, including the Mercury SCP, SCP-C, SCP-E, SCP-EP2500 and SCP-EP1502. The Mercury security controllers allow the PointGuard Xtreme to offer multiple communication channels, including serial (single and multi-drop), dial up, and Ethernet IP communication.

The PointGuard Xtreme platform will be available for purchase via distribution channels and partners in the physical security, educational and IT markets, including:
Nortel; Northern Video Systems; The PSA Security Network; The Cooperative Purchasing Network (TCPN); and The LearnSafe Initiative's school security and safety products catalog.
