Rama Nippani, director of engineering for Comtran Cable, receives his company's 2017 Cabling Innovators award from Cabling Installation & Maintenance chief editor Patrick McLaughlin (L) and publisher Alan Bergstein (R).

Comtran Cable (Attleboro, MA), a leading manufacturer of high performance wire and cable, announced that its VITALink CI Free Air cable was recognized by the judges of the annual Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards program. The awards were presented at the 2017 BICSI Fall Conference (Sep. 24-28) in Las Vegas.

Comtran was honored with the judging's Gold-level award for its VITALink CI Free Air cable. In March 2017, the cable passed UL 2196 testing with approval to be installed in the free air environment, an addition to the previously approved CIC (circuit integrity in conduit) listing. It is the only dual listed CI/CIC cable on the market, with the ability to be installed with or without conduit. This offers versatility to installers as well as cost savings in locations that do not require conduit or other accessories. Designed with low-smoke, zero halogen jacketing compounds, VITALink was created with safety as the top priority.

Comtran’s director of engineering, Rama Nippani, explains, “Approved by AHJs, designers, and engineers and winning preference among contractors, integrators, and installers, VITALink CI/CIC cable will provide an excellent return on investment while facilitating life-saving communications during fire situations.”

Company and product entrants to the Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards program were judged based on key criteria including: innovation; value to the user; sustainability; meeting a defined need; collaboration; and impact on the industy. "The judging panel consisted of cabling and communications system specifiers, designers, integrators and managers with vast professional experience," said Alan Bergstein, publisher of Cabling Installation & Maintenance.

Bergstein added, “This prestigious program allows Cabling Installation & Maintenance to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products and services in the structured cabling industry. Our 2017 Honorees are an outstanding example of companies who are making an impact in the industry.”

The 2017 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards Honorees are featured in the November Issue of Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine, as well as on http://www.cablinginstall.com.
