IWCS 2020 going virtual

May 1, 2020
The annual IWCS International Cable & Connectivity Symposium will be held as a virtual event entirely online in October 2020 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis. The new deadline for papers is Monday, May 25, 2020.

IWCS, Inc. announced that it is producing its IWCS 2020 International Cable & Connectivity Symposium as a virtual event entirely online in October 2020 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

IWCS reports that plans were already underway for the possibility of a virtual event when the Rhode Island Convention Center, where the conference was to be located, was converted to a critical auxiliary hospital by the State of Rhode Island to accommodate the overflow of coronavirus patients. IWCS wishes the best to its partners at the RI Convention Center.

Per an IWCS statement, "For the 69th year, IWCS will provide an exciting and interactive platform for the discussion and sharing of innovations in critical cabling infrastructure on which the world depends, especially now. We are creatively designing a full program to provide valuable opportunities for our speakers, attendees, exhibitors and sponsors."

The IWCS International Cable & Connectivity Symposium is among the premier venues for new technologies in cable and connectivity products, processes and applications. Since its inception, the symposium has been ranked among the leading worldwide conferences for peer-reviewed papers and presentations on technologies and trends in wire, cable and connectivity for the communications, data, electronics, power, industrial, automotive and aerospace industries.

The IWCS Symposium Committee generates an extremely high caliber program for each year’s conference, with over 100 papers and presentations in 20 compelling sessions over three full days. The annual event is an opportunity to explore discussions on topical issues, learn about new technologies and network with global industry colleagues.

The IWCS 2020 Virtual Edition conference will follow the basic outline of the in-person conferences. The exact logistics will be worked out over the coming months. IWCS will communicate specific information as it develops.

"We are excited for the challenge and committed to producing a successful virtual conference with the technical integrity that the industry has come to expect from IWCS," continued the IWCS statement. "The IWCS conference is a learning environment that fosters discussion, encourages innovation and professional development. This new situation provides a unique opportunity for potential presenters. We realize that some people may not have submitted abstracts due to concerns and uncertainty around the pandemic."

Now that the conference is going to be virtual, IWCS is offering a special, additional Call for Papers period for individuals to submit abstracts now. The new deadline for papers is Monday, May 25, 2020.

"We are looking forward with hope and optimism that the sacrifices the world is experiencing now with the COVID-19 mitigation efforts will help to get the virus under control in the next several months," concluded IWCS's statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are for all the victims of this disease. Please stay safe and continue to take all precautions to protect your family, friends and neighbors."
