The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has this month announced two new board members: Bruce McClelland, president and CEO of Ribbon Communications, and Charlie Vogt, president and CEO of DZS.

“TIA is pleased to announce these new board members, who will only strengthen an already active group of directors,” commented TIA CEO David Stehlin. “We welcome Bruce and Charlie, each of whom have been industry leaders for many years. The board looks forward to gaining their perspectives on the important initiatives we are advancing as we advocate for our industry in this especially important time.”

Ribbon is a global communications and network solutions provider to service providers, enterprises, and critical infrastructure sectors. Bruce McClelland became Ribbon’s CEO in March of 2020 and is a technical business leader with a proven history of developing and growing sustainable businesses through technology and business cycles. Before joining Ribbon, McClelland was CEO at ARRIS and led its sale to CommScope, where he served as COO. During his tenure at ARRIS, he held multiple leadership positions, and had a key role in the successful acquisition and integration of multiple companies, including Ruckus, Pace and the Motorola Home Business. McClelland began his career at Bell Northern Research and held several leadership roles at Nortel. He has served on the boards of ARRIS and Benu Networks, and actively supports the Georgia Cystic Fibrosis chapter. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering (Great Distinction) from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada.

“I’m very excited to join the TIA board of directors and help drive our industry forward,” said McClelland, “We face both tremendous opportunities and many challenges; TIA and its members are well positioned to provide the global leadership required to capitalize on these opportunities and address the challenges head-on.”

Charlie Vogt joined DZS as president and CEO in August 2020, bringing two decades of experience as a CEO and over 35 years of professional experience in executing visionary innovation and strategies that resulted in unprecedented growth and profitability in communications markets. Prior to DZS, Vogt was president and CEO of four companies that have played key roles in transforming the communications and media distributions industries: ATX Networks, a specialist in HFC access networking and media distribution solutions; Imagine Communications, a provider of media access networking and software systems; GENBAND (now Ribbon Communications), a global expert in optical access networking and software platform; and Taqua, a pioneer in VoIP softswitch technology. Earlier in his career, Vogt was instrumental in the operational and financial growth of several standard-setting technology companies, including ADTRAN and Ascend Communications, that either became public companies or were acquired. Vogt holds a B.S. in Economics and Computer Science from Saint Louis University.

“I am honored to assume a seat on the TIA board of directors,” said Vogt. “TIA and their members are on the forefront of tackling key issues for our industry. The world is rapidly moving towards hyper-connectivity, and communications and broadband have become a new essential utility to all consumers and businesses. I am excited for the opportunity to help drive the efforts that will shape the future of the telecommunications industry.”
